Our Story

The story of CleopatraRX™ and PearlPAK™ was born out of thoughtful consideration to empower women to take control of their brain health during menopause.

THE STORY OF CLEOPATRA

As Pharoah of Egypt, Cleopatra was highly praised for her intellectual depth in science, philosophy, mathematics, and debate.

Fluent in nine languages, she was the only Pharaoh who learned the Egyptian language so she could communicate with her armies. Cleopatra broke boundaries as a woman in leadership. And cleverness.

A wager with Mark Antony proves Cleopatra was the wiser.

The most famous story of Cleopatra is that of pearls and a wager with Mark Antony, the powerful Roman general who controlled Egypt. She bet Antony that she could host the most expensive dinner ever.

The day came and Antony sat down at the table and waited. Cleopatra removed her pearl earring, one of largest pearls in the land. She placed the pearl into her wine and drank it. Wine contains vinegar and she knew the pearl would dissolve in it. Through her knowledge of science, Cleopatra won the bet, having served the most expensive dinner ever.

INTEGRITY · BALANCE · SERENITY

Pearls are one of the most precious gems ever discovered.

Called “The Queen of Gems”, pearls are symbolically associated with integrity, balance, serenity, good luck, and wisdom gained through experience. It is also believed that those who wear pearls are offered a level of protection. Cleopatra and the pearl represent a synergy in strength and wisdom, and it seemed only fitting for our own story.

CleopatraRX™ and Rhonda Voskuhl, M.D.

CleopatraRX™ came to life through the leadership of Rhonda R. Voskuhl, M.D., a research scientist and professor of neurology at UCLA. Director of the Brain Research Institute (BRI), Dr. Voskuhl’s discovery of estrogen loss on cognition during menopause, came about during her extensive research on cognitive function in individuals with multiple sclerosis.

MEET RHONDA R. VOSKUHL, M.D.

Rhonda R. Voskuhl, M.D. has spent her professional career dedicated to finding solutions in neurodegenerative diseases.

A Professor of Neurology at the University of California (UCLA), she considers cognitive issues and the aging population as the greatest challenge of our generation. Dr. Voskuhl is highly regarded by her peers, medical and scientific communities for her research in multiple sclerosis.

For over two decades, Dr. Voskuhl has served as principal investigator at the Brain Research Institute, executing several treatment trials in the investigation of potential medical solutions for multiple sclerosis. She has published numerous scientific articles in academic journals on this topic.

Her commitment and tenacity to helping women improve cognition and decrease brain atrophy during menopause, led to the launch of PearlPAK™.

As a result of her extensive research, Dr. Voskuhl found an answer to fill the gap in cognitive deficits in menopausal women.

It was during her research on gray matter atrophy as a key link in multiple sclerosis that Dr. Voskuhl found a definitive connection in the loss of estrogen and its effect on cognitive decline.

Estrogen plays a proactive role in protecting the hippocampus region of the brain – the area of the brain responsible for active memory, long-term memory, and focus. At the onset of menopause, estrogen sharply declines throughout the body including the estrogen receptors that protect the brain. The loss of estrogen can throw a woman’s body into a frenzy with hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, weight gain, and brain fog. Brain fog affects verbal memory, attention, and working memory.

PearlPAK™ is the solution. It is not Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) which uses estrogen to alleviate common symptoms of menopause but does not address brain health.

The estrogen in PearlPAK™ is estriol, and it binds to different estrogen receptors. By binding to a specific receptor in the brain, estriol offers brain protection. Estriol is considered a safer form of estrogen than other forms of estrogen (estradiol). Estriol has been safely used by menopausal women throughout Europe and Asia for decades.

Timing is important. Neurologists know that one must begin treatment early during mild cognitive impairment to prevent further cognitive deficits. Our goal is to offer treatment at the onset of perimenopause, with the hope of preventing cognitive decline and brain atrophy – before it happens.

We are deeply thankful to inventor Rhonda Voskuhl, M.D. for her long-term commitment and expertise in the research of cognitive health for women and men with multiple sclerosis and for women in menopause.
