May 20, 2025
Dr. Rhonda Voskuhl, a leading expert in neuroimmunology and longtime advocate for women’s health research, appeared on ABC7 News to discuss the recent decision to restore funding to the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), a landmark 30-year study of over 160,000 women.
In the segment, Dr. Voskuhl emphasized the critical role of the WHI in advancing women’s health research. She noted that the study has been instrumental in uncovering vital information on various health issues, including cancer, hormone therapy, chronic disease and aging. Dr. Voskuhl highlighted that the WHI’s findings have significantly influenced public health guidelines and clinical practices, leading to improved health outcomes for women nationwide.
Dr. Voskuhl also addressed concerns about the potential impact of funding cuts on ongoing research. She stressed the importance of sustained support for long-term studies like the WHI to ensure continued progress in understanding and addressing women’s unique health needs. “This is the way you make progress. You track..you find who’s the best population..you study when, how, and so forth..and then we’ll have new drugs hopefully that are coming up.”
Dr. Voskuhl notes that while some types of hormone therapy were found to increase breast cancer risk, others, including CleopatraRX’s own PearlPAK™ are showing new promise for potential benefits to the brain and other systems.
